Spieth, Bell, McCurdy & Newell is a law firm of thirteen lawyers providing quality legal representation and personal service. Established in 1867, it is Cleveland's oldest law firm. The firm offers large firm skills in a small firm setting. Within the legal profession and among its clients, the firm has earned a reputation for excellence - a reputation based upon the philosophy and performance of its partners and associates. Five of the partners are listed in the current edition of The Best Lawyers in America and six of the partners have been recognized by their peers as among “Ohio’s Super Lawyers 2009”, including one as among the top 50 women lawyers in the State.

We value the close lawyer-client relationships, independence, and autonomous character of a smaller firm. Our practice includes work with entrepreneurs and their key personnel, closely-held businesses and individuals with wealth-preservation, wealth-transfer, and succession planning requirements. Through continued personal attention and involvement in the activities of our clients, we have gained the in-depth understanding required to prevent or resolve problems and plan for the future.

The partners, by choice, over the long span of time have controlled the firm's growth to ensure that their clients will continue to have their personal attention and efforts. The firm generally chooses to add only experienced lawyers with proven skills who have already demonstrated an ability to satisfy clients and a capacity for hard work, initiative, and resourcefulness.

The lawyers of Spieth, Bell, McCurdy & Newell have served their profession and community in a variety of ways including serving as chairpersons and committee members of the American, Ohio, New York City and Cleveland Bar Associations and other professional symposia such as the Cleveland Tax Institute and the Cleveland Estate Planning Institute.
