Jim Koehler has a diverse practice consisting of both litigation and transactional matters. As a transactional lawyer, he has represented U.S. and multinational corporate clients, limited partnerships in tax shelter areas, broker-dealers, investment advisors, U.S. clients in China and Israeli clients in the U.S. He has negotiated foreign currency loans, has handled mergers and acquisitions, structured various corporate transactions and prepared Securities and Exchange Commission filings.
Mr. Koehler has represented clients in litigation before trial and appellate courts (state and federal) in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware, New York, Texas and California. He has handled cases involving Federal securities laws (class and derivative suits, broker-dealer and investment advisor actions), attorney and accountant malpractice, UCC, contracts, NASD arbitrations, finance, lender liability, international banking, RICO, corporate law, partnership law, employee relations, real estate and estates and trusts. He has argued several cases before the Ohio Supreme Court, including the successful trust construction action in the Gottesman case, 101 Ohio St.3d 60 (2004).
Mr. Koehler has been active with his law school, serving as President of its Alumni Association and as Co-Chair of two annual fund campaigns and its most recent capital campaign. He is presently Vice Chair of the C.W.R.U. School of Law Visiting Committee. Jim also serves on the boards of directors of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Greater Cleveland and Lake-Geauga Recovery Centers. In the past, he has served as Chair of both of these Boards. |
