Douglas McCreery

Mr. McCreery concentrates his practice in the areas of estate planning and general business law with a focus on matters pertaining to privately owned businesses and related family wealth management and planning issues. Mr. McCreery has combined his legal career with “front line” business experience and currently serves as a director of several privately owned companies, one with more than 1200 employees, as well as serving as an officer and board chairman of a land holding company with extensive involvement in forest and natural resource management. A significant portion of Mr. McCreery’s experience includes legal issues in the context of Canadian and American business relationships.

In the personal planning area, his experience includes income, gift, estate and generation-skipping transfer tax planning as well as the formation and administration of trusts, limited liability companies, and partnerships to achieve both tax and other planning objectives such as business succession and wealth preservation.

His education includes a B.S. in Accounting, and an M.B.A. He received his law degree (cum laude) from Case Western Reserve University in 1986 and practiced law with Squire, Sanders and Dempsey and, later, with Young & Dietsch before joining Spieth, Bell. Mr. McCreery is committed to the role and concept of legal counselor. In building and maintaining each advisory relationship, he seeks a thorough understanding of the client’s concerns and goals to provide legal, business and practical advice to address both immediate issues and long term objectives. Mr. McCreery is a member of the American, Ohio State and Cleveland Bar Associations.
