J. Talbot Young

Mr. Young has concentrated his practice on trust and estate matters for thirty years, providing advice and counsel to clients on estate planning, the related estate, gift and generation skipping transfer tax planning, and estate and trust administration. He joined Spieth Bell in October of 2005, after 11 years as a founding partner of the firm of Young & Dietsch and 19 years as an associate and partner with a large multi national Cleveland firm. He received both his undergraduate and law school education at the University of Notre Dame.

He has broad experience in counseling clients on asset transfer planning, from the traditional testamentary dispositions in wills and trusts and lifetime transfers such as outright gifts, trust gifts, and use of a variety of business entities, such as family partnerships, S Corporations, and LLCs, to sophisticated multi-generational family planning.

His practice involves a significant focus on charitable gift planning, including the planning and implementation of split interest charitable trusts and private foundations. He also serves as legal counsel to individual and corporate executors and trustees in a wide variety of tax and administration matters for estates, trusts, and private foundations. His experience includes guardianships, pre-nuptial agreements, estate tax audits and appeals, a range of international estate planning issues, and service as an executor or trustee of estates, trusts and private foundations. Mr. Young is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and has been listed in Best Lawyers in America for more than ten years. He is a member of the American, Ohio and Cleveland Bar Associations and the Estate Planning Council of Cleveland.
